ABOUT THE AUTHOR After
a career in the BBC on the production side working mainly on children's film
drama, Avril Rowlands began her writing career with an eight-part children's drama series,
God’s
Wonderful Railway which was commissioned and made by the BBC and
transmitted in 1980 and 1982. She wrote three books based on the television
series and these were published by the BBC. This was followed up by
another television series and subsequent book, Letty, which
was made and transmitted by TVS in 1984. Her other writing for television
has included scripts for the pre-school television series, Wizadora
and Professor
Bubble,
and she wrote and directed a 20 minute adult narrative drama for the BBC
in 1994. John Horton works
principally as a wildlife artist enjoying the challenge of portraying animals
and birds in their natural environment. He works as much as possible from field
sketches and finds the depiction of landscape and habitat as rewarding as the
main subject matter itself. He
is a member of 'The Wildlife Art Society' and exhibits with them at national and
regional level. The ethos of the society is to display artwork and
sell it with a percentage of the proceeds going to a variety of
conservation causes with a view to improving and protecting the natural
environment. He found the illustration of
'The Tales of the McDorwuffs' particularly rewarding as the philosophy of
striving to maintain the landscape and the endeavour to establish harmony with
nature is so close to his heart. John works from his own
studio/gallery in the Worcestershire countryside and regularly exhibits work at
'The Lyttleton House Gallery' Great Malvern, UK. In September 2003 he won 'The
Christopher Parsons Award' for artistic excellence at the national exhibition of
The Wildlife Art Society. For contact details click on Contact Us below.
